When it comes to raising a credit score and showing off a good history on a credit report, it usually takes months or years to build up a great score. After all, a credit report shows the HISTORY of someone’s credit, so every account, loan, line of credit, and everything in between needs to age like a good whiskey in a barrel. However, not everyone has the time to raise their credit scores gradually.
The good news is that there are methods to raise your credit score in as quickly as 40 days in order to get a good deal on that new car loan or home mortgage. Here are three quick and easy ways to improve a credit score
Experian, one of the three credit bureaus (the other two being Transunion and Equifax), offers a free service to boost credit scores. Although the score boost isn’t too significant, it is a quick, easy, and FREE way to boost a credit score. The easiest way to do this is to sign up for an account on Experian.com and select the score boost option.
What this score boost does is report utility bills and telecom bills on the credit report. This means, people need to pay their bills on time to get the maximum benefit from this score boost, but the boost can be anywhere from 5 to 10 points per bill.
There are several third-party services out there that will report rent payments as a form of credit on credit reports; thus, this builds up an instant history. However, these third-party companies will charge monthly for their services to report to the credit bureaus, and not all of these third-party services will report to all three credit bureaus. Most of the time, they’ll most likely report to Equifax and Transunion.
Again, like with the Experian Boost, the customer needs to make sure they pay their rent on time to get the maximum benefit from a score boost.
The third option, which is the most effective, is being added to someone else’s credit card as an authorized user. An authorized user is someone who has access to his or her friend or family member’s credit card, giving them the ability to use it as their own. This is great for families, especially if the original cardholder has a great credit history and pays their credit card on time. Depending on the limit, history, and having no late payments on the card, this can give a great boost to someone’s credit score. The only thing to keep in mind is that the authorized user will be able to make purchases with their credit card as well.
If being put on a family or friend’s credit card is not an available option, there’s always the option of getting on a company’s tradeline. A tradeline is a company-owned credit card that offers its services to boost a customer’s credit score and history. These lines of credit are purposely made for tradelines and are kept in top-notch condition–no late payments and no high balances. Though companies that offer these services will charge a premium to get a quick boost to your score, it may be worth the cost if a customer needs to quickly raise their credit score to land a good deal on a loan.
