At Fix Your Credit Consulting we hear a multitude of stories from our clients about their creditors, and one common idea is that many people view their creditor as a kind of monolithic entity, unable to be reasoned with. Nothing is further from the truth, when you pick up your phone to call your creditor using the number on the back of your credit card, the person you are talking to on the other end is a person just like you, and like most people, chances are they are reasonable and willing to help.

There are a lot of benefits to be gained from talking to your creditors, a single call can allow you to change your billing date on a line of credit or you can get a late payment forgiven if you’ve had an otherwise good history of on time payments or are facing extenuating circumstances. If you’ve had an exceptional payment track record with your card, you can also ask for an increase in your credit limit or for a lower interest rate.
The main thing to remember is that the people that handle your credit are humans too, and to not be afraid to ask them for help.
